Non-essential businesses are recreational in nature. They are hubs of social interaction that provide a distraction from people's everyday lives. On March 17th, due to Covid-19, six-bay area counties announced a shelter in place for all residents forcing thousands of businesses to close. The purpose of these photographs is to document the emptiness of shopping malls, amusement parks, movie theaters, and downtown areas impacted by the closures. To represent the vastness of these places, I took pictures from two different perspectives. First, from a typical point of view, and second, from a drone, which gives a vantage point that people do not normally see.
